Fishing Tazin

Tazin is all about wilderness fishing without the unnecessary frills. Need an extra lure? No problem. Want to skip breakfast and head out at 5 AM? No problem. Fishing tackle is available for both casting and trolling, and extra lures are available at the lodge.

Fly fisherman are encouraged to bring their own gear. Eight-weight rods, large streamer flies and minnow imitations work well. Our experienced guides are here to serve you and don’t spend time fishing, because after all it’s your trip, not ours. Plus they prepare one of the best shore lunches you’ll find anywhere in Canada.

You’ll fish on modern boats with spring-ride pedestal seats, casting decks and depth finders.

Tazin Lake Lodge strongly endorses the practice of catch-and-release and the use of barbless hooks. Take measurements and lots of photos and a replica can be built of your trophy. This ensures there will be great fishing for future generations.

One of the biggest surprises in our first year was the amazing walleye fishing we discovered in one of our flyout lakes. Guests who took the time to fly over were rewarded with large numbers of very impressive fish. The largest of the season was a 31” fish with many in the 26” to 30” range. Most boats average 80 to 90 walleyes in a day of fishing and on top of the walleye in these lakes there were some big pike as well.

In 2006 one of our guests truly caught the fish of a lifetime. Fishing with Sean Coleman, John Geiger caught and released what was quite probably a world record Lake Trout. Check out the photos or this amazing fish. Measuring a conservative 50 inches long with a 33 ½” girth, the weight formula would put it at 70.25 pounds a single pound off the world record Lake Trout. This fish is alive and well waiting for someone like you to catch her again, after she’s put on a couple of pounds of course.
